You would never know there's a pasta factory in Redwood City. Tucked away among other commerical buildings / warehouses, there are some very small signs for Saporito Pasta. There is no storefront or walk-ins, you have to check the website for what's available and call/email in your order ahead of time.
Then you go to the address (in Redwood City) they provide you and give them a call when you arrive. I was communicating with a lovely woman named Nannette for my order and then she came out to bring the order to our car. Very enthusiastic and friendly, even in the pouring rain!
They have every type of pasta imaginable! Plus no egg options and flavored ones (like spinach too). They also have gnocchi, ravioli, desserts and cakes! Oh and can't forget that they also sell sauces: marinara, alfredo, and pesto.
We had a relatively small order. I ordered linguine ($3.95/order) and I thought it may not be enough for dinner for our family, so I ordered 2 orders. Plus I got some marinara sauce and 2 orders of tagliatelle. The whole thing came out to be about $21. It comes in this red reusable bags, it reminds me of the red Doordash bags haha.
Because it is fresh pasta, it is quick to cook! Only a couple minutes. Also Nannette said that it would expand and be a lot of pasta.
Even though a single bag doesn't look too big, it is actually a lot of pasta!! It could feed 4 people, or 3 people with big appetites. Good thing we only cooked one package for dinner. We froze the rest of the bags of pasta for another day :)
Nutrition facts if you care to see them. All that matters though is that it tastes really dang good!!
We made shrimp scampi that night!
The pasta was soooo good. There are no words that can adequately describe it. It tasted so fresh and chewy yet also with a good texture and bite to it. Reminded us of pasta in Italy. 😍🤤 It's so filling haha but I just kept eating and eating.
This is such a hidden gem in the Bay Area. I want to get all my pasta from here now and tell everyone about it. And it's very affordable!! This would be great for having dinner parties too and impress your guests!
They do supply to restaurants in the Bay, so it's like restaurant quality but even better depending on how you cook it. I can't go back to dried pasta on the grocery store shelves - which can be even more pricey!
Big kudos to Greg, Brian, and the whole team at Saporito Pasta for keeping the family recipe alive after three generations!! You can read more about the history here. I feel like their stories just add that much more depth and significance to the pasta they make. Think about the love that went into making the pasta, continuing to pass it down to their children, and for that younger generation to be willing to carry on the work.
This reminds of the words of author Michael Pollan, "We all have powerful memories of being cooked for. That act of generosity and love I think is still in there for most of us and is very powerful."
What a privilege it is to be able to taste and experience this food from their family!! ❤️
Happy cooking and enjoy the pasta!
Update: we also ordered desserts from there - fruit tarts and eclairs, OMG the eclairs are so good, we gobbled them up and wished we had bought more.
