Build Your Own Hotpot at Tang Bar in Downtown San Mateo (Malatang)

Tang Bar is a hot pot bar that recently opened in downtown San Mateo on 4th Ave. Apparently they have a popular location in SF too. It's got a beautiful interior with so much bright natural light and modern decor.

You grab a bowl and some tongs and start filling your bowl with whatever items you fancy.

They have meats, seafood, veggies, tofus, fish balls, noodles, and much more!

Then you pick what broth you want and hand your bowl over to them. They will cook it and call you over when it's ready! Here are the broth choices: chicken broth, pickled veggies, just a kick (mild spicy), hot and sour, szechuan spicy, and laska.

Note that the amount of food you put into your bowl gets weighed and it's $15.99 per pound.

The final bowl is giant! I shared this one. I got beef, shrimp, fish balls with roe, imitation crab, fish fillets, bean curd sticks, winter melon, napa capable, two types of tofu, and noodles with chicken broth. The broth was really flavorful and it was soo much food.

Lots of seating for individuals to groups, but actually it gets quite crowded! We tried to go for an earlier lunch to beat the crowds and were able to find a table after some time. By the time we left, a good number of people were still looking for a table, so come early!
