Clean Oats from Back Roads Granola

I'm very excited to share with you about these oats today! It's not something special that's in these oats though, but rather what's not in these oats!

Just Oats from Back Roads Granola are supposedly some of the cleanest oats you can find in the market. I've heard about them a couple times now and most recently in a reddit thread. 😛 They are certified gluten free, organic, and certified glyphosate residue free. You can even see the excellent 1.0 rating from the EWG for these oats. You can read more about glyphosate and oats from the EWG here.

What is glyphosate? Watch here from Bobby Parrish. It's the active ingredient in the pesticide Roundup (increases risk of cancer), which runs off into our soil and affects other crops that aren't directly sprayed like oats. So it's important to avoid and look for the glyphosate residue free label on foods like oats. Even looking at a popular grocery store brand like Bob's Red Mill Organic Old Fashioned Oats, I don't see the glyphosate residue free label on it. 🤔

Since I'm not aware of local Bay Area stores that carry this brand, I ordered online. When you buy Just Oats from Back Roads Granola, you can choose between a 1.5oz bag, 10 oz bag or 2.4 lb bag. You can also get one bag or a case of 6 or 12! You would think that's a lot but then once you order it and try it, you regret not buying a larger quantity lol. So after my first purchase and liking it, I need to reorder again soon!

Our family eats a lot of oats! This is what we did with the first 2.4 lb bag:

  • Regular oatmeal cooked on the stovetop and then mixed with frozen berries

  • Overnight oats and toppings added the next morning

  • This granola recipe - though instead of bars it kind of didn't hold together so it's more like loose granola

  • One pan baked oatmeal - a staple in our household that even young kids can help make (e.g. smashing the banana, pouring in the milk, adding berries etc..) and it fits in the toaster oven so you don't have to fire up the big oven for it

I don't know if I can taste a huge difference, but they taste good! And I would like to continue buying them for my family, knowing that they have less toxins in them. And I will buy a case next time too!

Also got some granola from them too but haven't tried it yet because as mentioned we made our own! 😁
