Flower arranging workshop with Fleurvoyant

I recently took a virtual floral arranging class with Emily, founder of NY-based florist company Fleurvoyant. It was a joy!

She gave us directions ahead of class on what flowers to buy for the "recipe" of what arrangement we'd be making. It was intended to be affordable flowers that we could easily find at a local grocery store. I picked them up from Trader Joe's and Safeway - including roses, lilies, alstroemerias, and hydrangeas.

The class was an hour long but super informative and she had so much knowledge to share. She is a sweetheart and made it a relaxing and fun experience.

Here's how my arrangement turned out!

Some tips I learned from her:

  • What's actually in flower food (wow that surprised me!)

  • How to care for my flower arrangement

  • There's diff types of arrangements like symmetrical or asymmetrical

  • You can get creative with what you use for a vase - even a mason jar will do!

  • Process the flowers to remove any unnecessary leaves, which makes the arrangement look cleaner

  • Don't waste any flowers! Even small ones that are leftovers can be used for small bud vases that you can put in your bathroom or somewhere in your home

I was excited at how my arrangement turned out - it was actually quite big with all the flowers I had purchased! I ended up gifting it to my grandma for her birthday, and she enjoyed it - especially when the lilies started to bloom and filled the house with a sweet aroma in the days afterwards.

Soon after, I was inspired to make my own flower arrangements for a party we had, using bouquets of flowers from Costco. Here are some pics from the arrangements I made. I ended up using empty glass jars of all sizes from pantry items that we had recently eaten, so each was meant to be unique! I ended up spending till 1am the night before the party working on them :P. After the party, guests took the arrangements home, which made them and me happy. I am eager to keep practicing this hobby!
