Figuring out weekend activities to do with your little one is a challenging task! Scouring the web, it seems like the most common activities for toddlers are a gymnastics class or a music class. There may be some sports classes like basketball or swimming, but it is rare to find things for the younger age groups.
That's why I was thrilled to stumble upon these cooking classes at TasteBuds Kitchen in Palo Alto. They have classes for all age groups like adults, families, kids, and even toddlers with what's called "Caregiver and Me" classes (ages 2 and up) where a parent (or other caregiver) can go with a young child.
You sign up for individual one-time classes and it's $50 for the Caregiver & Me classes (covers child and adult). The class size is relatively small maybe like 15 kids plus their parents. They last one hour long (the classes for older people last longer) but this is plenty for a toddler who has a rapidly waning attention span!
There will be a menu item that the class is focused on like making a fun themed cupcake, cookies, donuts, etc.. specifically we've attended classes to make cinnamon rolls and a gingerbread house. It was great because I didn't have the energy to setup a gingerbread house making session at home 😆.
They are very well organized. They have all the cooking stations setup and ingredients pre-measured out.
They walk you through step-by-step how to make it and have a bunch of helpers walking around to help your child. It can get a little messy, but that's the fun of it! 😛 While the cinnamon rolls were baking, they also did a storytime to entertain the kids.
Overall, I highly recommend the classes at TasteBuds Kitchen. Though I haven't been to the other types of classes, I love that there's this community kitchen open to the public to take classes. It's fun bonding time with your loved one and you get to walk away with your creation at the end.
I think it makes my little one incredibly proud for what they were able to make, and the beaming smile on their face is priceless! So we will definitely be coming back!
Check out the upcoming class schedule here. There's also TasteBuds kitchens in other locations around the Bay too like San Jose and San Bruno.
