Izzy's Steak & Chops was an unassuming steakhouse off the San Carlos exit of Highway 101. It was next to the Hiller Aviation museum that you can't miss from the freeway too.
Inside it was a nice setting for a special occasion meal for family and friends, and we celebrated some milestones there! My favorite dish was the skirt steak and fries because it was very affordable back then and fries, what's not to love?
It closed down for awhile for a large remodel and revamp of the menu, and it reopened this year, as Izzy's on th Peninsula! The furniture and interior design is upscale, chic, and modern. It's a great space for a business event or social celebration. They have private rooms and ample seating for big groups in the main dining area. There's a bar area and some lounge seating as well.
Menu is similar but revamped a bit, and increased in price but that's expected and ok. We ordered the sourdough bread as an appetizer and it was so warm and toasty, with a side of butter and olive oil. I almost ate half the loaf before dinner!
Our entrees came after, I got the skirt steak of course (still in the menu, yay!) and hubby got the prime rib.
Skirt steak was flavorful and we thoroughly enjoyed the fries too. I didn't have any of the prime rib, but I think he preferred it from House of Prime Rib instead. 🤷♀️ Also got a side of Izzy's potatoes, it was a bit too cheesy for me, but the potatoes were nicely and thinly scalloped.
All in all, it was a lovely impromptu date night at Izzy's on the Peninsula (we walked in and got seated right away without reservations.) The place was packed with a special event and people hanging out at the bar.
I'm glad this place is back!! Been around since 1987! A place to consider for a nice dinner or a private event. They also have an SF location called Izzy's Steaks & Chops which I've been to and is good as well. Cheers!
