Jar Cakes at GK Pastry in Mountain View

This family-run bakery has amazingly delicious jar cakes, cookies, sourdough breads, and more! They're all baked by Gulnoza Khaytenova, and her husband Musa was at the front of the shop at the time we visited. He was so friendly and welcoming to us, sharing what they offer and providing us samples to try.

They started off at farmers markets and they have two storefront locations, one in Palo Alto and now this one on Cuesta Drive in Mountain View (located in the plaza with Safeway and Mountain Mike's Pizza).

They have really tasty jar cakes with different flavors like Tiramisu, Apple Pie, Chcocolat Mousse, Berry, and more. They're actually not too spp one was my fave, while my hubby liked the tiramisu one best. Pistachio was pretty out of this world too. It was unlike anything I ever had before!

I have to say their Italian amaretti cookies are insanely good too, especially the pistachio one we tried. It's so chewy and decadent. It's kind of like a macaroon in texture. He said that his wife liked to use all natural ingredients and will go so far to make her own extracts, pastes, and even pistachio flour. I believe you can really taste the quality of ingredients they use.

We sampled their sourdough breads and they were also very delicious. Would come back to buy their jalapeno cheese bread!

They also have Napoleon cakes, crepe cakes to order, and pastries. They were all sold out of pastries when we got there. They have oatmeal cookies and ice cream cakes too!

He said they can't keep their dark chocolate oatmeal cookies in stock, they keep selling out! So I will be on the lookout for those next time too.

Here is our haul for this first visit. I can't wait to share them with our family so more people can hear about their shop and try these treats!

My takeaway: I found it very inspiring to hear Musa talk about his wife and how dedicated she is to her craft. She insists on only putting out her best baked creations to sell on the shop and has very high standards of perfection. She is a self-taught baker, started by making things for her kids and friends, and it has now blossomed into this bakery. Her husband talked about how important customer service is and it really shines through in our interaction with him today and the many 5-star reviews I've seen online about the store. Their deep level of care for the customer experience and for the baked goods makes a winning combo.

I am happy to support this small business that has come to the Bay Area and I hope you do too!
