Gourmet Cookies at Crumbl Cookies in Mountain View

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

Freshly baked cookies out of the oven at all hours of the day? Heck yes, tell me when and where.

Crumbl Cookies has come to Mountain View! It's at the plaza with CVS and Wells Fargo (where Sprouts used to be). You can spot the white and pink grand opening balloons outside it.

When you walk in, it's very minimalist and white and clean. You have a direct view into the ovens and the bakers baking and decorating cookies.

There's a self-ordering station to the right with the menu.

Or you can order from someone directly and see a display of how the cookies actually look. You can get their opinion and ask for help in deciding which one to get. I think the big ones are $5 each.

There's regular sized ones (which are already quite massive) and there's mini size ones. Note that a regular sized one could feed multiple people! They're thick and can be quite sweet, so cutting it and sharing is probably better lol.

If you order a small quantity, they come in these distinctly cute, pink individual boxes.

They ensure that your cookies are recently freshly baked. Once they are baked, they get put into a warmer, so by the time they serve it to you, it should still be nice and toasty. You can feel the warmth when holding the box.

It was pretty darn delicious, though it took me several days to eat one. I imagine it would hit the spot even more if it was late at night and you were craving something sweet. Amazingly, they are open until 10pm on most nights, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday night. They are closed on Sunday.

This is the second time I've gotten these (once in Napa area, and now here), and it tasted better this time around. Maybe because I got the classic chocolate chip. I imagine the other flavors with frosting on top would be a bit too sweet for me.

I did a little more research on this company and found some fascinating info from this NY Times article: "Are Crumbl Cookies the Best or the Worst? It Doesn’t Matter." Apparently this company is doing very, very well with franchises across the US. They sell nearly 1M cookies a day.

Crumbl Cookies was founded by two cousins Sawyer Hemsley and Jason McGowan. One of them has a background in tech and they were very smart about marketing and positioning this brand to be viral on social media. Each week, they change their menu of 6 cookie offerings. As I write this, this week's flavors are Milk Chocolate Chip, Dirt Cake with a gummy worm on top, Banana bread, Strawberry Cake, Chocolate Milk with a wafer straw on top, and Classic Pink Sugar. Because the cookies are only available for a limited time, it creates scarcity and people keep coming back each week to try the exclusive flavors. They'll create content on social media including TikTok trying and reviewing the different flavors. I even found myself curious to come back to check their menu the following week after I had visited.

They also have an app where you can order directly from it, so that's smart because they don't get hit with third party fees from food ordering apps like Doordash. Lastly, I did want to mention they have a customer loyalty program where you get "crumbs" for each $1 you spend there, and 100 "crumbs" turns into $10 Crumbl Cash for free cookies. Every crumb counts!

So yeah, whether you like their cookies or not, there's something very enticing about Crumbl Cookies that has customers keep coming back for more!! On my way to visit someone, I picked up a cookie for them, and they liked it, so it's a fun gift in a nice box to bring someone too.

If you try it, let me know if you like it, love it, or hate it!
