The peninsula was eagerly awaiting the opening of Boichik Bagels in Palo Alto's Town & Country plaza (near CVS and Boba Guys). It is founded by Emily Winston who opened her first store in Berkeley, making New York style bagels. I believe it opened late last year. I remember we tried to go a couple times and they were either already sold out or one time their boiler broke down, so sadly no bagels that day. :(
(Emily expanded operations by building a bagel plant and she raised funds from the community as detailed in this article, including a $1M bond offering that the public could invest in. I thought that was so cool you could invest in a local business even with a small amount of money!)
One weekend, we finally arrived early enough to get some bagels! And yes there can be a line out the door. People want their fresh bagels on a Saturday morning! Here's what it looks like inside the shop:
They've also been featured in the NY Times!
Here's the menu of options (types of bagels, spreads, etc..):
We got a toasted onion bagel with butter and an everything bagel with cream cheese (I forget what flavor). I don't know what a NY bagel tastes like, but these bagels are soft, chewy, and thick / hearty.
It was fun to try and their cream cheese flavors are unique like horseradish cheddar scallion! There are also frozen bagels you can purchase. I've also seen them in the freezers at grocery stores as well.
There you have it! Bagels! You could also order online and pick up, then you'll be sure that they have what you want. Have you tried these?
