Sushi Platters for Easy Takeout Dinner from Masa Sushi Japan in Mountain View

Updated: May 2

Masa Sushi is a very unassuming sushi place located on Castro Street (the quiet section of Castro Street near El Camino and Le Boulanger and Amici's). You could walk by many times (as I have) and not even notice it is there, or just easily brush it off as a regular average sushi place.

But when my coworker told me that our coworker from Japan likes the sushi from this place, I was suddenly interested and wanted try it. Their menu looks pretty standard with all sorts of sushi rolls, nigiri, and combos.

BUT there's also a party menu that you can order from, and you don't need to place your order ahead way in advance. When you order online, you could order a roll or a whole platter.

Now I know sushi platters sound fancy and they can get pretty fancy in terms of what they contain. These ones are pretty basic and it's actually just several orders of what's on their regular menu. But I like that it's presented on a platter, great for sharing in a group and making a weekday takeout meal feel a little nicer. :)

We got 48 piece Regular Roll platter which contains 16 pieces of California roll, 16 pieces of tempura roll, and 16 pieces of spicy tuna roll. Depending on how many mouths you're feeding or whether you want nigiri or special rolls, you can check out the other platter options.

Pricing is reasonable! Our platter above was $42 and the other platters go upwards from there, up to like $100 something if there's nigiri.

We also added some sides too like seaweed salad and edamame. Note that a single seaweed salad order is pretty small, so I ordered a couple of those.

They also individually packaged soy sauce for you in these containers that make it easy to add wasabi to it.

From ordering, they estimated it would take 20 mins for the order to be ready for pickup. Not bad!

It was delicious and we were stuffed! There was a bunch of sushi left, also because my hubby ordered extra rolls.

Overall it's the second time we have ordered a sushi platter from them. The first time was with a group including some kids and it was also a hit! I really enjoy the platter because it's so easy to order. You don't have to scroll through the whole menu to think what rolls you want for each person in the group, you just choose a platter based on how many people you're feeding / their appetite size. It greatly simplifies the decision making process, and less thinking required is a win in my book! There you have it, an easy weeknight meal in Mountain View and also good for groups.

If you try a platter, let me know which one you get!
