In Chinese culture, red envelopes containing money inside are given as good luck for different occasions like birthdays, Chinese New Year, and other special occasions.
This is probably already common knowlege, but you can actually get some red envelopes for free from your local bank. Chinese New Year is still a while off, but my local bank already got a shipment of there red envelopes, so I luckily got a pack already.

They are pretty nice! And you don't have to fold your bills in half, like you do for the smaller envelopes.
Of course, you could also get them from a local grocery store like Ranch 99, but those aren't free 🙂
